Photo Shoots

Capturing dance at a photo shoot is extremely technical for both the dancer and the photographer. Olenka can direct the dancers’ angles to be coherent with good technical execution, emotion and artistry. She can also advise which moments from the shoot capture the dancers at the optimum timing. She is experienced in both staging and improvising at photo shoots.

Film Direction & Editing

Well-advised film direction and editing can heighten the dancer’s emotion and enhance the choreography. In film, it is important not to lose the dancer’s skills and techniques in too many cropped shots or narrative elements. In all dance styles the rubric for the moves and poses are devised for stage, as if for a continuous frontal wide-angle shot. Thus, the dancer’s artistry is expressed with the entire body in the way the dancer moves across the floor, carries the arms, or arches the back. Olenka can advise any film project from storyboarding, to directing and editing the dance sequence

Choreography

A well-devised choreography will improve the visual composition and dramatic timing of any dance film or commercial. Olenka can choreograph for the shoot or suggest a choreographer that best matches the production’s aesthetic. Olenka studied choreography at the Boston Ballet Contemporary Choreographic Program for two years.

Styling

In each dance style, the costumes reflect the aesthetic, methodology and tradition of the moves. The clothes also must be functional and facilitate movement. Olenka can guide an outfit selection that is conscious of the dance style or choreography and that helps the dancers perform their best.
